Vel's Academy of Maritime Studies (VAMS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (GCNS), Scotland, UK, to jointly conduct fully residential Higher National Diploma (HND) Courses in Nautical Science. The Higher National Diploma courses are approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) UK, and the awarding authority is the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA), Scotland, UK. Glasgow College of Nautical Studies is situated in the heart of Glasgow on the south bank of the River Clyde. Glasgow is one of Europe's liveliest and friendliest cities and a great place to study. Having its own unique culture and social life, museums, theatres, one will never be short of things to do. Many attractions are less than hour away, including Edinburgh. Fast Intercity links mean London is a little over 5 hours away.

HND NAUTICAL SCIENCE: The first year of the HND Nautical Science Course will be conducted at VAMS, Chennai, and the second year of study will be conducted at GCNS, Glasgow. Phase 1 is of 39 weeks at VAMS, followed by 38 weeks at GCNS. Thereafter, 20 months of sea service are required to qualify for Deck Officer of the Watch Certificate of Competency (earlier known as Class 3 or Second Mates Certificate) examinations in the UK.
